Bronislaw Komorowski, who last month became acting Polish head of state after the tragic death of President Lech Kaczynski in a plane crash, has increased his chances of winning the first round of polling to do his new job for five years. Civic Platform member Komorowski is backed by 56 percent of people in an ARC opinion poll conducted for daily newspaper Polska and published today. Jaroslaw Kaczynski, the twin brother of Lech, is backed by the Law & Justice party and has 29 percent backing in the poll. Other candidates commanded less than 6 percent each. It is the second poll to show Komorowski in the lead for the first leg of the election which takes place on June 20. In the first ARC poll, conducted before the Smolensk air crash, Komorowski was already seen favourite with 49 percent support and his rival at the time, Lech, was on 31 percent.
