BROADCASTING FROM POLE TO POLE

THERE is so much to admire about the way Polish people are setting about life in London. A classic example of their enterprise is the proliferation of media devoted to the community.

One of the latest launches is a commercial FM station, Radio Orla, which is aiming to build an audience in Ealing, Hillingdon and Hounslow. It is also has a website which, like the station, is bilingual. That's a very sensible decision, balancing an understandable wish to preserve the Polish language and culture with the need to encourage a use of English.

Other incoming populations could learn a lot from the energy and common sense of the Poles, who are using the media to maintain a sense of community, while encouraging greater integration.
